Who is ERF Editorial Consulting?

As a scientific technical editor with more than 30 years of experience—25 of which were for the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)—I've edited work in many different media, from paper based, to online, to the Web—and for many different publishing venues from peer-reviewed journal articles, white papers, grey literature, websites, marketing materials, and books. These were from such diverse subjects as corrosion science; meteorology; oceanography; remote sensing; botany; horticulture; enology and viticulture; calibration and validation; flight dynamics; engineering; environmental science; physics; computer science; and mathematics. Combining these scientific disciplines with my degree in horticulture—which encompasses plant science, plant pathology, botany, biology, floriculture, and general agriculture—gives me an extremely broad subject matter base to help you with your editing needs.

A unique specialty of mine is making a multiauthor work read as if only one author wrote it. I am also a published author in my own right (see Author Of), so I am aware of many of the concerns authors have when their work is edited.

In addition to my years of editing experience, I am a board certified editor in the life sciences (ELS) by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS). The sole reason for the existence of BELS is "to evaluate the proficiency of manuscript editors in the life sciences and to award credentials similar to those obtainable in other professions," so you can have confidence in my abilities to edit your work to the highest standards.

I won numerous NASA awards for my edited documentation (the SeaWiFS Technical Report Series, Prelaunch and Postlaunch), and was a guest editor for the American Chemical Society's Style Guide, 2nd Edition. In addition, I am a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), and a member of the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Association of Earth Science Editors (AESE), and the American Geosciences Institute (AGI). In addition, I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), as well as the founder and past president of the Maryland chapter.
